Birthday Party

John's Birthday

Yesterday was a great day to celebrate the birthday of one of the favorite men in our lives. The weather has been cool here in Ohio {most unusual for July!}, so we just had to cook out and eat outside.

We decorated the porch.

Grilled up some steak and hot dogs.

Tossed salad.

Dessert – Caramel Brownies {I’ll post the recipe a little later today :)}

It’s a Party

Gigantic Cookie

We are so excited that JR gave his final presentation on Monday and will be graduating with his MBA.

The kids and I decided that it was worth celebrating, so we picked up some special desserts and decorations. {I starved myself all day, so I could join in the tasty fun. It was totally worth it! :)}

We started out with a low calorie dinner.

Here’s the recipe we used for the BBQ […]

Family Valentine’s Day Party

Valentine's Day

Here’s a recap of our traditional family Valentine’s Day Party. It’s been fun creating Valentine’s Day crafts and decorating the home in preparation for a celebration of LOVE.

We set the table with our heart plates and pink glasses and turned down the lights for a roomantic {as Nicholas calls it} mood. Our dinner menu included BBQ beef sandwiches, corn and spinach salad.

The kids enjoyed the funny mustache straws I picked up at […]

Ice Cream Cone Cakes

Iced with Sprinkles

I guesss you could say I’ve been on a cupcake craze lately. Not sure why, except the ideas I’ve come accross looked like they would be fun to make. These Ice Cream Cone Cakes were quite simple to make.

Just use a cake mix, line a cupcake pan with baking cups, fill them with batter and top them off with a cone. After cooling, remove the liner, ice and decorate. Enjoy!

Here’s what […]

Cupcake Decorating Party

Ice Cream Cupcake

Kids love working in the kitchen. So, why not host a cupcake decorating party? On Friday, the Bible club girls had a great time rotating through stations making fun and tasty cupcakes.

Here’s how it worked.

1. Choose several decorating options.

There are tons of creative and fun ideas out there. Pinterest anyone? (By the way, you can follow me here :)) Here’s a collection of easy cupcake decorating ideas I came across. I […]

Valentine’s Day Greetings – Rings and Superheroes

Valentine Superhero

There are so many great Valentine’s Day ideas out there! I’ve collected some of my favorites on Pinterest.

I found these rings for Clara to make (click here for instructions). We were really pleased with how they turned out. Twisting the pipe cleaners turned out to be a little more difficult for Clara than we anticipated. In the end, Clara worked on the labels and I did the twisting.

I showed Nicholas […]

Marshmallow Pops for Valentine’s Day

Marshmallow Hearts

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. The kid’s and I love making cards and putting together packages for family and friends. We saw a picture of these marshmallow pops and decided to give it a try. We followed the directions found at Glorious Treats.

I was excited to find these heart shaped marshmallows at Walmart for $1.25/bag. They also had the large, pink strawberry marshmallows the recipe calls for in stock.

This project […]

Super Easy Christmas Party Snack Mix

Christmas Party Snack Mix

A dear friend of ours has given us some of her Christmas party snack mix for many years now. It’s always such a treat and tastes delicious.

I followed this part snack mix recipe over at Allrecipes and love how you just throw everything in a bowl and mix it together. After reading some of the recipe reviews I tweaked it a little.

I used:

2 ½ c. of […]

Are you looking for a fun and exciting game to play at your next birthday party? Look no further!

This party game takes a little time to prepare, but it’s well worth the effort. I worked on it while watching a movie.

Here’s what you’ll need: 1-2 skeins of yarn (depending on how long you want the game to last) candy – bubble gum, individually wrapped candy, mini size chocolate treats big bowl hat, […]

A Mystery Birthday Party

Wow, it’s hard to believe Clara is 8! I thought I’d share with you what we did for her party this year.

She loves to read Nancy Drew, so we planned a mystery party. It was a big success. Tons of fun was had by all and great memories were made.

Keeping our theme in mind we created the invitation.

On the day of the party, as the children arrived, they played the candy […]
