Solar Fountain for Your Garden

Pin it here.

I love fountains in the garden. Maybe it has something to do with my growing up years in Germany and visiting the many beautiful castle gardens.

Unfortunately, my little garden space does not allow for such a grand display. I also don’t have electrical outlets located in convenient locations to plug in a fountain pump. After a little research, I found this #1 best selling floating solar fountain.

Our Robins and Their Nest

Those of you who follow Homemaking with Monica on facebook and Instagram, know that we’ve enjoyed watching a robin family on our back porch. I thought it might be fun to post a progression of photos, including the babies leaving the nest. Enjoy!

Preparing the Garden for Winter

preparing the garden for winter

Today may very well have been the last warm day of the year. The temperatures are supposed to drop into the 30s later this week and I do not want to be raking leaves and planting bulbs when it gets that cold.

So, we’ve spent these last nice days winterizing the garden. Our clean-up mostly consisted of raking leaves, mowing, cutting back perennials, pulling annuals and cleaning up flower beds.

The garden looks so […]

Backyard Birds

We have a new passion at the Rudy household. Birding!

Pin it here. Thanks!

This won’t come as a complete surprise to my facebook followers. You’ve already met papa cardinal who comes to visit me every morning.

It all started, because Clara has chosen Ohio birds for her 4-H project this year. Since then, we’ve discovered several bird enthusiasts among our acquaintances. They have shared different ways for us to get involved in the […]

Flower Bulb Tray

Flower Bulb Tray

I found this flower bulb tray at Aldi this week for $6.99.

I’ve never seen anything like it and can’t wait to see if and how it turns out. All you have to do is plant the tray 5″ deep.

Now I just need to decide where to plant them.

Have you ever planted anything like this before? I’d love to hear about it.

I’d love to stay connected.

Summer Garden ~ Update #1

summer flowers

This week may be the last hurrah of summer for us here in central Ohio. I was gone most of August and thanks to our wonderful neighbors our hanging baskets and pots still look beautiful.

The zinnias in the front have turned the walkway into a little jungle.

The bees are busy from sun up to sun down.

Beautiful, fragrant fall clematis framing the entrance to our “secret garden”.

I was happy […]

Happy Summer!

It’s time to move on from my spring garden updates and share the first summer pics of my garden. With all the daylilies in bloom you can see why it’s my absolute favorite time of the year {besides Christmas, of course }.

Great place for coffee and quiet time in the mornings.

Some blooms…

How does your garden grow? Please share pics and leave links […]

Spring Garden 2013 ~ Update #4

back yard entry

All the rain, sunshine, and not too hot weather have done wonders for the garden. Everything is still lush and green without me having to water much. Love it!

It’s time for the last spring garden update of 2013! {Hard to believe summer is just around the corner!}

Here’s a view of the front yard. You’ll notice that the front door is still *blah*. Thanks for all your input and ideas on what I should […]

Spring Garden 2013 ~ Update #3

Hanging Baskets

I’m so thankful for these past few days. A little calm before the storm. {We have a VERY busy rehearsal and performance schedule starting tomorrow through Sunday.}

Before the weekend, I made a list of tasks that needed to be done around the home, including yard work, cleaning out the garage, wiping down walls, sorting the kids toys, etc. I am happy to report that we checked off most of the items!

Here’s a look […]

Spring Garden 2013 ~ Update #2

Lilacs

The flowers are loving the spring rain and warm sunshine. It’s amazing how much everything has grown since the last update. Come take a walk with me.

Here is the view walking into the back yard.

The kids enjoy our little reading bench nook. I’m loving the river birch. The trunk is starting to peel, which is really the reason I planted it.

Here’s what’s blooming. All the flowers {except […]
