What we did on our Christmas break – Part 2

disney 2014

On day three of our Christmas break we arrived in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. (Check out part one of our trip here.) We rented Dottie’s Beach Retreat for our stay. We loved that the condo complex was right on the beach with a heated outdoor pool and private access to the beach.

Here’s the view from our balcony. Absolutely perfect!

We enjoyed a day of relaxation at the pool and playing on the […]

What we did on our Christmas break – Part 1

2015 Christmas

We enjoyed a wonderful break from the business of normal life. Our time off started out with our traditional Christmas Eve celebrations.

Everyone is all dressed up and ready for church.

After church we sat down for our traditional dinner including ham, rice, corn, salad, feta and olives. For dessert we enjoyed some of the sweet treats we made earlier in the week: Grammy’s no bake cookies, maple fudge, chocolate fudge, […]

Germany Trip – Part 2 – A Paris Excursion

Paris

Our second vacation week took us on a four day excursion to Paris. It was super fun to have my parents with us on the trip. Lots of memories were made. {Read more about our Germany trip here.}

We got up bright and early to catch a train from Aalen to Stuttgart.

Then we took the TGV (high speed train) from Stuttgart to Paris.

We arrived at our hotel a little after noon. […]

Now that the laundry is washed, the new school schedules are in place and I’ve had a chance to work in the yard, it’s time to post some pictures.

Dayton Aviation Heritage ~ National Historical Park

Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park

We’re on spring break this week and enjoying a little staycation. Staycations are great for exploring your city and state. So yesterday, we enjoyed exploring the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. As with all our visits to the National Parks so far, we were not disappointed.

The kids completed the Junior Ranger program and earned two badges. {Nicholas was finally old enough (6) to participate and was so proud of his badges.}

All […]

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park

GCC4

Yesterday, we returned from a relaxing few days in Greensboro, NC where we visited with family. During past visits we checked out many area attractions but had not visited Guilford Courthouse National Military Park yet. Since we’ve discovered the wonderful Junior Ranger program offered by the National Park Service we decided to go learn a little Revolutionary War history.

Looking for something fun to do with your kids? Are you on a tight budget? Why not check out one of our National Parks and complete the Junior Ranger program. It’s a fun family activity, a wonderful learning experience and best of all it’s FREE.

Yesterday, we went and explored the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, where Clara completed the Junior Ranger program and we all learned a lot about Ohio’s inhabitants from […]

Family Vacation in Tennessee

I’m back! It’s been a while since I checked in. Oops. We were on vacation in Chattanooga, Tennessee over spring break and had a fabulous time. Here’s a glimpse into our week.

We spent a day at Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. We learned a lot of Civil War history and Clara completed the Junior Ranger program at both parks. I highly recommend this program. It is available at all National Parks (for FREE) […]

Spoon Collection – Travel Momentos

I love to travel and visit new places. I’m sure, growing up in Germany has something to do with that. In Europe, going to another country was just like driving to another state here in the US. As a child, I remember many vacations in Austria, Switzerland and France.

When John and I got married, we went to Cape Ann in Massachusets. We didn’t have much money, but I was able to pick up a […]
