More Music

It’s that time of year. Lot’s of recitals and concerts to finish out the school year. Yesterday, was the day of my spring studio recital. I thought you might enjoy some of the kids’ performances.

Clara performed a violin solo. She liked how it sounded in the church with those high ceilings.

Here’s Nick playing Premier Boogie. He was thinking about asking people to dance while he played. {And probably would have if […]

Lots of Music

These last few weeks have been crazy busy. Lots of music, school and yard work. Today, I thought I’d share some musical performances from this past week.

Here is Clara playing at her piano recital. A great afternoon of music, as usual.

These three pieces are from Clara’s Chamber Strings concert. She’s sitting first violin, second chair.

Here she’s the second one standing on the right.

Clara’s Piano Competition Piece ~ Debussy

Happy Monday!

I hope all of you enjoyed a relaxing weekend and were able to recharge for the week ahead. Along with the usual basketball game, ballet class and church we got to hear Clara’s flawless performance of Debussy’s Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum at the CSO Young Musicians Competition. Since I couldn’t record the actual performance, I’ll share a practice run through.

Nicholas was excited to put together his first ever model.

A Piano Performance: Dream

Yesterday was a big day for Clara. She participated in the Columbus Symphony’s Young Musicians Competition. She did a wonderful job.

In her division they aren’t really competing against each other, but it was a good experience of what the setting is like for the concerto competition {which she really wants to participate in when she’s older.} She performed on a stage in a large auditorium with 3 judges and a small audience.

I thought […]

Bright Orange

Here’s a fun little song I thought might brighten your day. It’s one of Clara’s favorites these days. Enjoy!

I’d love to stay connected.

A Piano Recital

It’s a busy performance and assessment season around here these days and I thought it would be fun to share some of Nicholas and Clara’s well prepared piano pieces. I read somewhere a while back about how it’s a good idea to record songs as the kids learn them. {I have been very bad at doing this.} So, here they are. Enjoy!

The Recital was Canceled!

Well, the big disappointment this week was the cancellation of a recital in which Clara was to perform. She was really bummed since she had been working so hard on her piece.

So, I suggested to her that I would record her at her lesson this week and post it on the blog. This way she could give a virtual recital to a much larger audience. That put a smile back on her face.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Family Photo Christmas 2012

A belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from our family to yours.

Here’s a little glimpse into our family festivities.

To start off, I thought you might enjoy hearing the kids playing prelude music for our Christmas Eve service.

Now we’re back home. The table is set.

A beautiful centerpiece from my favorite florist.

The fire is lit.

And we’re ready to dig in.

Fall Orchestra Concert

Our family life includes a lot of music (lessons, recitals, concerts…). Here’s a little peak at Clara’s orchestra concert last night.

Here’s my favorite piece they performed.

Links to the rest of the pieces. Enjoy!

Allegro for Two Trumpets by Vivaldi

Kabuki Dance by Meyer

Variations on an Irish Tune by Balmages

Royal Processional by Keunig

Piano Recital

This afternoon my students performed a Spring Recital at a local retirement home. Everyone is preparing for the upcoming piano guild auditions, so this was a chance to perform some of the pieces in front of an audience.

Here’s Nicholas playing Night Wind and Big Ben (his favorite!).

Check out Clara playing Knecht Ruprecht.
