Now that we have completed most of the mechanical repairs after moving into our new home, it’s time to start work on some cosmetic changes. One of the first rooms getting a makeover is the dining room.

We started out by painting the walls, existing chair rail and crown molding. {Note- I painted the lower wall white before adding the wainscot molding.} After some research, I found this wainscoting DIY tutorial […]

How to Clean Grout with Baking Soda and Vinegar

How to clean tile floor with grout

So, I’m not exactly in love with the tile floor in our entry way, but it is in good shape and replacing it just isn’t a priority. The dirty, dark grout, however, was not something I could live with. I suspected it might have originally been lighter and after test scrubbing an area, my suspicions were confirmed.

Supplies needed:

baking soda white vinegar scrub brush lots of elbow […]

We Moved!

our new second home

We moved! (And I’m back to blogging.)

It’s something we had been thinking about for quite a while and wasn’t an easy decision to make, because we really loved our old home and garden. It was our first home and the only home the kids had ever known. But there were a few things about our living situation that were becoming more difficult to deal with. Mainly, the lack of space.

We put our house […]

Recently there’s been a blog post circulating about 10 reasons to keep your house clean. I decided to read the post and found myself agreeing with many of the reasons.

After mulling it over a little I decided that I had three top reasons for speed cleaning every morning. I’ll also share what speed cleaning looks like for me. Here we go!

1. It looks so much better.

I spend […]

Fall Decorations

fall decor

The temperatures have fallen and we are slowly saying goodbye to the summer flowers. The leaves are changing colors and it’s getting dark earlier at night. Fall has definitely arrived. I was in denial for several weeks, but finally decided to start putting out the fall decorations.

Here’s what the front door looks like. {Notice, my flowers are still pretty. Hope I get a little more time to enjoy them.}

Inside, […]

Master Bedroom Makeover

master bedroom makeover

It’s been a busy summer. Lots of activities- vacation, string camp, 4-H, and lots of home improvements.

I’ll try to post a summer recap post in the next few days, but for now I’ll share our master bedroom makeover. {I did promise my faithful facebook followers that I would do so!} It’s something we decided to do for our 15 year anniversary which was almost a year ago. Ahem.

I kind of forgot to take […]

Backyard Birds

We have a new passion at the Rudy household. Birding!

Pin it here. Thanks!

This won’t come as a complete surprise to my facebook followers. You’ve already met papa cardinal who comes to visit me every morning.

It all started, because Clara has chosen Ohio birds for her 4-H project this year. Since then, we’ve discovered several bird enthusiasts among our acquaintances. They have shared different ways for us to get involved in the […]

Mantle Wall Makeover – Part 2

stenciled cabinet

Remember way back, when I asked you all for some help with my mantle wall? Well I finally got around to doing something about it. You guys left some great feedback (check out the comments here) and for months I couldn’t make up my mind what to do. Finally, I bit the bullet and did something. My thought was that if it turned out terrible, I could always start over.

As a reminder, here’s the […]

To Do Lists Work

To Do List

Lately, I’ve benefited from making daily to do lists for myself. They’ve helped me stay organized and focused throughout the day. Without my list I tend to get distracted easily and forget what goals I set for myself. List making has most definitely upped my productivity.
