A New Routine for this Frazzled Mom

Time for change

It’s the beginning of a new school year which makes it a perfect time to implement a new schedule.

To be perfectly honest, I struggled a lot last school year. Our schedule was hectic and full and definitely wasn’t working for me. I wasn’t getting time to myself. Time to consistently refresh my soul, exercise or just plain think didn’t exist. This made me a stressed out, frazzled and overall not fun momma. I knew I couldn’t continue down this path and things had to change.

Time to reevaluate

Over the summer I took some time to reflect on what really matters to me. What are my priorities? Where did I want to invest my time? How could I make it all work?

Some of the conclusions I came to were:

  • Time to refresh my soul and exercise are a must.
  • Blogging and growing my jewelry business are things I would like to continue to pursue.
  • I don’t get much quiet/me time when the kids are awake.
  • I am a morning person and don’t have much energy at the end of the day.
  • I want to be present {not distracted} for my husband and children during the day.

It became clear that the only way to get time to refresh, exercise and blog, was to get up early. Not really the answer I was looking for, but I was desperate and willing to give it a try.

Time for a new schedule

So here’s what my morning routine looks like for now. And I’m happy to say it’s been working well so far. I’ve gone from frazzled mom to calm{er} mom. 😉

5:00 am – get up and go on a 2 mile walk with my husband

5:45 am – Bible study and quiet time

6:15 am – pop in the shower and get dressed for the day

7:00 am – work on blogging and Monica Rudy Jewelry

7:30 am – wake up kiddos

I know this schedule won’t work for everyone. After all, our families and situations are unique. But I hope to encourage any frazzled or stressed out moms out there to take some time to evaluate your schedule and see if you can’t carve out a little time for yourself. Determine your priorities and find a way to make some time for yourself, even if it’s just few minutes!

Make time for yourself, because if you don’t you won’t be of any use to yourself or anyone else for that matter.

  • Monica,
I’m glad that you are making time for yourself to do the things you enjoy – if only for a little while. I have always been successful carving out a little ‘me’ time, even if it meant staying up later – which was my choice as I am not much of a morning person. I hope the schedule continues to work for you! ~Laurie

Good thoughts… Everything worthwhile takes work. Thanks to God for his grace, too.
