My Big Struggle

I realized a long time ago that I can’t do it all. There, I admit it.

Over the past year or two I’ve struggled with preparing healthy homemade dinners for the family. I read blogs about meal planning, freezer cooking, crock pot meals, etc. But nothing seemed to work well consistently. To be honest, part of the problem has been that I don’t particularly like to cook. {Give me a bathroom to clean any day.} Also, running the kids around to lessons during the time I would normally prepare dinner added another obstacle. As a result, we ate out more frequently which hasn’t been helping our weight-loss efforts at all.

You might be thinking excuses, excuses and you’re probably right. But I was super excited and quick to jump at an opportunity that presented itself.

I Hired a Cook

I’m not exactly sure how the conversation got started, but I mentioned to a friend that I would just love to have someone cook for me. I couldn’t have been more surprised at her answer. She mentioned that her mother did some cooking and she would check with her and see if she might be interested. Well, she was. It’s now several months later and we have the most amazing cook preparing our dinners for us.

Here’s how it works.

I place an order for ten meals every two weeks. {This month, I compiled recipes from Cooking Light magazines and Weight Watchers cookbooks.} Then I check my stockpile, prepare a grocery list, and go shopping. After that, I drop everything off at our cook’s home and she takes it from there. When everything is prepared we go pick it up, bring it home and pop it in our freezer.

Now the only difficult decision we have to make each day is which tasty meal to heat up and eat.

Hearty Vegetable Soup

Here are four reasons I’m happy I handed this job over to someone else:

1. We eat healthier.

2. We save money and time.

3. It eliminates stress.

4. We get to try new things.

How about you? Have you handed a chore or job off to someone else? Please share in the comments. I would love to hear all about it.
