Mantle Wall Makeover – Part 1

Now that Christmas is over and the decorations are all packed up, the house looks plain and empty.

I need your help!

Most of our family living takes place in our open concept family/dining/kitchen room area. I’m looking to change up the decor and am not exactly sure what to do. I’ve already pinned a few ideas for the mantle on my Pinterest ~ Spring Mantle Makeover board. My initial thoughts are to add some wallpaper or fabric backing to the built ins and fill the mantle with plants, mercury glass and wood/natural items. I would definitely like to keep things bright and happy.

Do you have any thoughts or ideas on how I should decorate my mantle or the rest of the space for that matter? Please leave your thoughts and links in the comments!

Here are some more pictures of the space to give you a better idea of what I’m working with. {You can check out our kitchen makeover here.}

    Love the idea of wallpaper on the back walls of your shelving. Ialso think just a contrasting paint would add a really neat effect. A big framed mirror resting on the mantel would also look really nice, and give the illusion of a bigger space. How fun! Can’t wait to see what you end up doing!!!

    Oooh…I like all the “stuff” on the shelves. Thanks for sharing your ideas! You always have such great taste, Elizabeth!

    I love Elizabeth’s idea of a large mirror on the mantle. I see one on the other wall but I think they may reflect off of each other. I see some green and white entered with small flower arrangements, I love to see green white and black combinations. I also like the idea of putting color on the back of the bookcases on Pinterest they covered pieces of cardboard with wall paper or fabric that fit in the space in the back of the shelves. You could use 2 different designs or colors that compliment each other. I see some family framed pictures on the shelf you could paint the frames black or green or cover them in the prints on the back of the shelves and place them on the mantle in front of the mirror, stack some books and maybe some chunky dark candlesticks on the opposite end I really liked all the ideas for the items on the bookshelves on the site Elizabeth sent you. Good luck and I’m excited to see your finished project.

    Thanks, Linda, for your fantastic ideas. I can totally picture them in the space. Of course, I’ll keep you updated on what I end up doing. :)
