I can’t believe it’s already been eight weeks since John and I started out on our weight loss journey. I have now lost a total of 11.4 pounds and am finally starting to notice the weight loss when I put on my jeans and look in the mirror. John managed to lose 2 pounds since our last weigh-in, even though he spent several days out of town for work. You can imagine how challenging it is to eat healthfully when you’re on the road.
This week, I thought I would share four keys to my weight loss success so far.
As with any goal, accountability is so important. I knew that I wouldn’t stick to my goal of losing weight if I didn’t do something drastic. That’s when I decided to blog about it. Knowing that I have to report my results to you every two weeks really motivates me to stay on track. I am also thankful that John is taking this journey with me. We keep each other accountable. We encourage each other to make wise food choices and rejoice together over each pound lost.
2. Healthy Snacks
One of the things I’ve had difficulty with is feeling hungry. There are times I just have to have a little snack to help me get to the next meal. I have had to learn to keep healthy snack options on hand at all times.
Here’s a list of snacks I keep stocked:
- fruit (grapes, oranges, bananas, apples)
- fiber bars
- fat free chips
- mini pretzels
- fat free yoghurt
This week I am going to attempt to make low calorie granola bars for a new snack option.
3. Menu Planning – Freezer Cooking
Several weeks ago, I attempted to cook 30 meals in a day for the very first time. I made a variety of healthy meals that were low in calories. This has completely taken the stress out of dinner preparations and virtually eliminated going out to eat. We now know what’s for dinner every day and can plan our remaining food choices accordingly. An additional bonus: we are saving a lot of money each week!
4. Keep your eye on the prize.
I love reading inspirational stories about people who have walked down this path before and had success. Last week I shared the story of Dani and Rich who lost a combined 285 pounds! What an inspiration!
When the going gets tough I just think back to the beginning of the year when I was over 11 pounds heavier and dwell on how far I have already come instead of how far I still have to go. I remind myself that weight loss isn’t a quick process but a slow journey that takes discipline and determination. I know that eight weeks from today I will have lost even more weight and be even more excited than I am today!
Are you trying to lose weight or have you already lost a bunch of weight? What are some of your tips? I would love to hear them!
